Position Overview:  

Assemble and weld piping systems. 

 

Responsibilities / Job Duties

  • Support a philosophy of zero accidents by following all applicable safety procedures and maintaining equipment to operate in the safest way possible
  • • Must use all necessary personal protective equipment to safely meet job expectations and statutory compliance requirements
  • • Laying, fitting, and welding pipes – primarily in the 1G and 5G position
  • • Weld and repair piping according to ASME B31.3 code and the company’s welding procedure specifications (WPS)
  • • Ensure welding equipment is in good working condition
  • • Develop and maintain working knowledge of welding techniques and materials
  • • Monitor welding to minimize shrinking, expansion or distortion of work pieces
  • • Adhere to company policy, procedures, and rules
  • • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • • Flexibility to work hours necessary to meet plant requirements
  • • Need minimal instructions of pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor

 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • • Ability to read isometric pipe drawings
  • • Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
  • • Ability to read and use a tape measure in US units (not metric)
  • • Ability to read and use a level
  • • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • • Pass pre-employment and periodic welding tests
  • • Competency test (ASME 5G 2” s160): Pass a pipe weld test of welding two pieces of 2” Sch 160 pipe together in the 5G position using the parameter of MES’ in-position WPS. The weld will be radiographed (x-rayed) and then bend tested (two cap bends and two root bends) to make sure the weld is of sufficient quality. Results will be either pass or fail.

 

Physical Requirements

  • • Ability to stand, sit and/or walk on a hard surface as well as safely bend, stoop, reach, climb steps, and use ladder for long periods of time
  • • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • • Vision required: 20/40 with or without corrective lenses to accurately see welding materials

Working Conditions 

  • • Subject to outdoor environment with adjusting temperatures and climate
